Step-by-step instruction sheet.
Use it to write a job instruction operators can follow. List each step with its key point, the reason and the time, add photos, and copy the sheet for printing or Excel.
Photos stay in the page only. They are not saved when you close it, so keep a copy of the file you attach them to.
A standard work instruction (SWI), also called a work instruction or job breakdown sheet, describes the current best way to do a task.
Step 3: 'Torque the four flange bolts.' Key point: in a cross pattern to 45 Nm. Reason: even clamping prevents leaks. A photo shows the numbered bolt sequence.
Standard work is the overall method (takt, sequence and WIP). The work instruction is the document operators use to perform it.
The few details that make or break the step for safety, quality or ease, such as an angle, a torque or a check.
Usually one or two pages. Split long jobs into several instructions.
