How to use the Safety Walk Checklist

A safety walk is a regular, structured look at an area to find hazards before they cause harm and to talk with people about safety.

  1. Walk the area with the checklist and someone who works there.
  2. Record hazards with photos and a risk rating.
  3. Assign actions with owners and dates, starting with the highest risks.

Worked example

A walk finds a blocked fire extinguisher, a damaged extension lead and an unguarded pinch point on a conveyor. The lead is removed immediately, the extinguisher is cleared that day and the guard is fitted within a week.
