How to use the Gemba Walk Checklist

A gemba walk means going to where the work happens to observe, ask questions and support the team, not to inspect or blame.

  1. Pick a theme for the walk, such as safety, flow or quality.
  2. Use the checklist questions and record what you see, with facts and photos.
  3. Agree a small number of actions with the team and follow up on the next walk.

Worked example

A walk focused on flow follows one order from release to dispatch and finds it waits 2 days for a missing drawing. The action, owned by engineering, is to release drawings with the work order.
