Availability, performance and quality.
Use it to measure how well a machine or line uses its planned time. Enter planned time, ideal cycle time, output, rejects and stops, and it gives availability, performance, quality, OEE and a downtime Pareto.
Total stop minutes become downtime. Paste two columns from Excel.
Availability = run time ÷ planned time. Performance = (ideal cycle time × total units) ÷ run time. Quality = good units ÷ total units. OEE = availability × performance × quality. 85% is a common world-class target.
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) shows how much of a machine's planned time produces good parts at full speed.
OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality.
A 480-minute shift has 60 minutes of downtime: availability 87.5%. In 420 minutes of run time, 360 parts are made at an ideal cycle time of 1 minute: performance 85.7%. 342 parts are good: quality 95%. OEE = 0.875 × 0.857 × 0.95 = 71%.
85% is often called world class for discrete manufacturing. Many plants start between 40% and 60%.
Breakdowns, setups and adjustments, small stops, reduced speed, start-up rejects and production rejects.
No. Planned breaks are removed from planned production time. Unplanned stops count against availability.
