Where delivery happens
When the goods are at the named destination on the arriving vehicle, ready for unloading.
The seller
- Export clearance
- All freight and transit risk up to the named place
The buyer
- Unloading
- Import clearance, duty and GST/VAT
When risk passes
Passes at the named destination, before unloading.
When to use DAP
The seller handles the whole trip but the buyer is the importer of record.
Watch out
If the goods are held at the border because the buyer has not cleared them, extra storage costs usually fall on the buyer. Make the named place a full address.
Example
DAP 12 Example St, Hampton Park VIC: the seller's carrier brings the goods to the door; the buyer's customs broker clears them and the buyer pays duty and GST.
How it appears on the invoice
Write the three-letter code, the named place and the rules version, for example DAP Hampton Park VIC 3976 (Incoterms® 2020). The full name is not needed on the document. In Vendara Trade Documents you pick DAP – Delivered at Place from the list and the invoice prints just DAP with your named place.
